How to Clean Ski Goggles
Ski goggles are essential to have while skiing. They protect your eyes from snow, sun, and wind. For the best visibility, it is important to know how to clean your ski goggles, maintain them when not in use, and store them properly in between uses. Properly cleaning ski goggles will help prevent damage, improve visibility, and increase the lifespan of your goggles. Knowing the proper way to clean your ski goggles is imperative in preserving the lifespan as well as safely skiing.
Using a Cleaning Cloth, Goggle Bag, and/or Cleaning Solution
Use a cleaning cloth to clean your goggles. A microfiber cloth or any similar soft cloth is the best type of cloth to use to clean your goggles. Goggles usually come with a cleaning cloth to clean goggles. If your goggles do not come with a cleaning cloth, microfiber cloths can be purchased online or at your local hardware or superstore.
When goggles are dry, gently wipe the outer lens with the cloth.Rubbing the goggles in a circular motion would be best.
Rub only the outer lens of your goggles. Most manufacturers put an anti-fog coating on the interior lens. Rubbing the inner lens may remove or smear any anti-fog coating. It is best to leave the inner lens alone to eliminate damage.
If the inner lens appears to be dirty or wet, let it air dry.
Use a goggle bag to clean your goggles. Most goggles come with a goggle bag. Goggle bags are usually made with a soft material that can safely protect and clean goggles. You can use the goggle bag to gently wipe away dust and fingerprints.Take the glasses out of the goggle bag and use the bag to wipe the outer lens of the goggles.
3 Clean goggles with a cleaning solution in specific cases. Some goggle brands make specific lens cleaning products and solutions. Only use a cleaning solution if necessary. Goggles can usually be sufficiently cleaned without a cleaning solution. This step is optional.
If your goggles appear to have watermarks that are not coming off after using a cloth or goggle bag, a cleaning solution can be used on the outer lens. Spray the cleaning solution on the goggles and gently wipe the glasses with a microfiber cloth, a soft cloth, or your goggle bag.
Some cleaning solutions are used as anti-fog protector. If you are having issues with your goggles fogging up, just spray an anti-fog cleaning solution on your goggles then wipe it off.
Cleaning solution can also be used to protect goggles from dust and mild scratches.
Keeping Goggles Clean
Do not leave goggles on top of your head in between riding. It can sometimes be convenient to rest your goggles on the top of your head in between rides. This should be avoided to prevent your goggles from getting dirty or foggy.
Storing goggles on your head may cause fog due to the heat and sweat coming off of your head.
When goggles are not in use, hold them by the handle low where sweat and heat cannot easily reach them.
Do not rub your lenses while they are wet. Snow, ice, and slush can severely damage your ski goggles if you rub them while wet. This can scratch the lenses or create irreversible smears and/or smudges.
You may want to carry an extra lens with you so that you can change your lens if it gets wet or dirty while skiing.
Use a drying device or air dry lenses in between uses. Air dry your lenses to avoid damage in between uses. You can also use a drying device to dry your lenses. If you are not at home, you can visit your local restaurant or hotel and use a hand dryer or blow dryer to gently dry your goggles. Make sure that you hold the goggles at a distance from the dryer to prevent permanent damage.
When air drying goggles, place them somewhere where there is little moisture.
Try not to mess with goggles during the air drying process. Let them naturally dry without tampering.
Storing Goggles in a Safe Place
Store goggles somewhere dry and safe when they are not in use. Store your goggles somewhere that the goggles cannot get scratched or smeared, and/or somewhere they will not get lost. Storing goggles in a safe place can prevent your goggles from getting damaged.
A good place to store your goggles is in a soft protective covering.A soft covering will help prevent scratches.
A ski bag is usually a safe place to store goggles. Some ski bags are designed with a compartment where you can store your goggles. If your ski bag has this compartment, you can safely store your goggles there.
Put your goggles in the protective bag they came in after you are done skiing. You can simply store your ski goggles in the protective case or container that they came in. These bags are designed to store, clean and protect goggles.
Make sure that the face foam is dry before putting goggles in storage bag or container. If the face foam gets ruined, you will need to buy new goggles.
Keep goggles at room temperature when storing. Once you have stored your goggles in the correct container, make sure that you store them at the right temperature. Storing ski goggles at the wrong temperature can cause permanent damage and require replacement. Make sure that you do not store goggles in temperatures that are too hot or too cold.
Do not leave goggles in the car. Leaving goggles in the car will expose them to extreme cold and hot temperatures that can cause foam deterioration.
